ADRIAN FREEDMAN IN ATHENS, 13.05.2026

We are very happy to welcome Adrian Freedman to Athens and to the new space of the Zen Center Athens, Saikenji.

On Wednesday, 13 May at 19:00, Adrian Freedman will offer a presentation introducing his long-term engagement with music, Zen practice, shakuhachi, and the plants medicine music traditions; a path where sound, breath, and awareness meet as a form of listening, healing, and presence.
His work unfolds between disciplines and traditions, bridging contemplative practice and musical expression, ritual and performance, the personal and the collective.

Following the talk, at 20:20 we will continue with zazen, accompanied by live shakuhachi played by Adrian Freedman.

This is an open invitation to gather, listen, and share a space of stillness. We kindly recommend arriving 15 minutes earlier to the Center in order to settle before the presentation begins.

The event is free of charge, with open donation.

Short Bio:

Adrian Freedman is a British composer and multi-instrumentalist, internationally recognized for his work with the shakuhachi, the Japanese Zen bamboo flute. He studied music in the UK and lived for seven years in Japan, where he trained with master Yokoyama Katsuya.

His artistic path extends across contemporary music, theatre and dance, as well as sacred and devotional traditions. He later lived in Brazil, immersing himself in ritual music practices and developing a body of healing and medicine songs.

Freedman’s work brings together sound, meditation, and spirituality, creating deeply contemplative musical environments rooted in breath, attention, and presence.
